SHEBA STAYS | A Haunting Horror Story About a What Walks at Night in the Idaho Countryside (Preview)

Story Details:

SHEBA STAYS

Juanita lives in a dented trailer at the end of a gravel spit outside Murtaugh, Idaho—nothing out there but rusted fence line, potato rot, and the sound of the wind trying to remember a song. She’s old. Her bones say so. So does the dog—Sheba, an old German Shepherd who’s lived through things even silence won’t name.

There are children in the trailer now. Four of them. Not hers. Not really.
The boy’s name is Royce...eight, smart, already scared in ways no child should be.
The twins Addie and June...five, always singing the same song but never at the same time.
And little Jimmy, who talks to things behind the fridge.

It’s June. The calendar says Adoption Day is two days away. Juanita circles the date again and again. But something’s wrong.  She’s done this before.  She knows she has.  And every time, the memory bleeds like fruit left too long in the sun.

Sheba starts to growl again.  Not at the children.  Not at the wind.  At something else.

Something out past the field.  Something coming slow down the dirt road, cracked and split and overgrown with potatoes that haven’t been harvested in years...maybe decades. Juanita can’t remember. She should remember.

But she does know this:  She has to keep them safe.  She has to stay awake.  And she has to remember before whatever comes next knocks again.  Because something always knocks.
